We are excited to bring you “Books We Love”!. Every month we will pick our favorite children’s book to add to your to-read list. We would also like to invite you to pick or suggest your favorite book and why you and your children love the book by commenting in the comment section below.
This month, we pick something a little less conventional, a comic book. Don’t worry moms and dads, no violence or coarse language involved! It’s a TOON Book – the first high-quality comics designed for children aged three years and above. Your children will love this type of comic, the detail in the pictures makes them want to attempt to read the words. And here is one of the TOON Books collection:
“A Trip To The Bottom Of The World With Mouse” by Frank Viva.
The story is about a boy going on a voyage by boat to wild Antarctica with his best friend, Mouse. Throughout their journey, they meet fun and interesting wild animals such as a yellow-eyed penguin and a whale. Mouse however, was very impatient, he just wants to get there and once there, he just wants to go home!
Why Mom Recommend It:
It’s a great approach to nurture the love of reading in children. The bold color palette is so appealing to young readers and the short text is not overwhelming. The speech bubbles with bold fonts makes it easier for children to comprehend. When I read this book to my daughter, she quickly grabbed it and pointed to the speech bubbles and asked me what does it says? So I put my fingertip below the character that is speaking so she can follow the story and learn the alphabet written inside the speech bubbles at the same time.
